Thorpe Family Residence was founded in 1989 by the  Dominican Sisters of Sparkill. It is a temporary shelter for homeless mothers and children. Services are provided on site, such as: parenting, budgeting, conflict resolution and counseling. The goal is to help mothers finish school or get  job training, so they can get a living wage job and live independently in permanent housing.
Park Avenue Thorpe is permanent supportive housing for formerly homeless families that are in need of ongoing services. Some have been incarcelated or have completed recovery programs and were reunited with their children here.

Both programs collaborate on a Food Pantry that provides over 100 bags of non-perishable food once a week to neighbors in need.
