Attention all Volunteers…Thorpe Needs You!

Our Volunteers Collaboration

A Work Study student also helped research grants in our ongoing struggle to raise funds for the service programs at Park Avenue Thorpe.

Two groups of Fordhan University volunteers participated in an Urban Plunge. They spent a day at Park Avenue Thorpe cleaning, painting, sorting donations in the morning, and also entertaining the children in the afternoon.

The Aquinas Big Sisters copntinued their volunteer work at Thorpe Family Residence. They helped the children with homework, recreation on and off site as well as parties at holiday time. The children enjoyed an Easter Egg Hunt at Aquinas High School and Halloween Party.

The Preston High School girls gave Thorpe Family Residence a Thanksgiving party.

Both voluntee groupd had parties and received certificates of appreciation for their work.

Children and staff appreciate their help. As the media bombards us with negativity and violence, these young volunteers are good news signs of hope to us all.

We welcome volunteers to help us in many ways. Currently, Fordham University students come as part of the work study program, as interns, or as volunteers from the Campus Ministry or Community Service offices. These students help with tutoring the children as well as in a variety of other areas. In addition, Aquinas High School students help with recreational activities both on and off site as well as mentoring our children residents.

Come join the Thorpe Community and help the homeless families we serve!!

If you would like to volunteer, please call Sister Barbara at (718) 295-2550.
