The program at Thorpe Family Residence consists of ongoing workshops: parenting , health, e.g. Aids Prevention, T.B., Lupus and nutrition. Some of the residents are working. Others are involved in FEGS, the begin program or alternative education as GED and ESL.

          At Park Avenue Thorpe, some mothers are working, a few are in GED or ESL, and others help with volunteer work.

          Another program is the Food Pantry. Eighteen helpful volunteers from the neighborhood and local churches continue to volunteer at our collaborative Food Pantry. On Tuesday mornings, the food is delivered; on Wednesday mornings, an average of 160 bags of nonperishable foods are distributed. Some of this food comes from the Interfaith Group in Scarsdale, the Magdalene Church in Pocantico Hills and Holy Innocent in Pleasantville.

          We extend services to our neighbors by providing housing information once a week. Our collaborative Food Pantry is open to others in need. Sometimes we see people on line an hour ahead of time even in the cold of winter from babies in a carriage to senior citizens.

          We also have a donation room of second hand clothing and household articles. There are moments when even a small gesture of kindness, can help relieve a little of the anxiety of a person without resources.

          The Universal Pre-K is under the Dominican Sisters of Blauvelt and welcomes our children as well as nearby neighboring children.
